War Crimes, Terrorism & Propaganda
After the Second World War ended in 1945, Nuremberg Germany was the focus of the first War Crimes Trial in recorded history. Nazi Germany was on trial for the crimes committed in the name of fascism most notably, the aggressive invasion of other countries and the deaths of tens of millions of people. The consensus among nations and result of this trial was to make future war a crime. Chief Justice Robert Jackson, the American Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials, was the laws champion. The law simply put, states that war of aggression is considered a War Crime and a Crime against humanity. High standing morals became International Law and all nations were, and still are, bound by it.
What is Terrorism?
War boils down to one thing, “Greed”. There will always be two sides in War, one stronger and one weaker. The weaker side will choose a way to fight its stronger opponent that best inflicts damage while protecting itself. The stronger side will always use brute force. This type of War has not changed in the twentieth century when Irish Nationals first practiced it on British occupation forces in the early 1900’s. The Irish Nationals were declared terrorists by England because they did not play the game of dressing up in army colours to meet the opposing British on a field of battle.
During the Second World War, the Germans called members of the French Resistance terrorists also, but the victors of that war do not agree with the term terrorist in this application because “they were on our side”.
Iraqi resistance to the U.S. occupational force today is no different than the French resistance fighting the occupation forces of Nazi Germany in World War 2.
I think anyone would defend his or her country against an invading army, I know I would. If Canada were invaded by The United States, I would defend my country any way I could; and believe me I would not play by rules of engagement. Canada does not have a large army and therefore could not defeat the U.S. in open conflict. At any rate, I would be called a terrorist for my actions by the USA because I would resist occupation. If the United States were invaded by another country, an armed public would do no less.
Is it really preposterous to believe that the USA would invade Canada? Considering the present state of America, I don’t see why the Americans would not invade Canada in the future. White House officials have already set up the pretext to the invasion of Canada. Much the same way they did for Iraq. Oh yes, and we have Oil, lots of it.
Canada has been in the Bush Administrations eyesight’s since 2001 when we were declared “a haven for terrorists”. CNN and all other American news media then echoed the statements of George W. Bush to help plant this propaganda in the minds of the American TV audience. Since then, movies have come out to further the cause of American propaganda, that “Canada is not to be trusted and is easily infiltrated by terrorists”.
Propaganda and the News Media / Medium:
The greatest and complete example of propaganda being delivered by medium to the masses of its citizenship is Nazi Germany. In a time when Radio sets were in the majority of homes, listeners were bombarded with racial and nationalistic propaganda. The Nazis controlled the News media and mediums and used propaganda on the German people to promote expansionism, racism, hatred, and greedy intentions. We all know what happened as a result.
Today, the USA has an all out Propaganda Blitz on their citizens by corporate owned media. The same corporations also inform their workers who to vote for in regards to corporate financial security and corporate interests and ambitions. (I have personally experienced this through newsletters from United Technologies and ITW.) No doubt that talk at political fundraisers of Democratic & Republican party members center on what their financial backers want.
Proof of the propaganda and lies that the U.S. News Media and Politicians are telling their own people can be seen by the overwhelming approval of the War in Iraq in 2003 by the American people. Now in 2007, after hundreds of thousands of lost lives, support for the War in Iraq is fading. Why?...because the Whitehouse got caught lying to the American people about weapons of mass destruction and who was responsible for terrorist attacks in 2001. The power of free speech came in the form of the Internet.
Why are the Americans in Iraq? I believe that this might have something to do with oil, and that the military dominance the USA enjoys over the World depends on Oil. (Personal opinion)
The major delivery system of propaganda in the USA today is by the television. The Television Station owners are funded by huge corporations through commercials that turn into profits for shareholders. The same owners are not interested in reporting the truth or the facts anymore because it just isn’t as profitable as a War is. Television station owners are paid to protect their sponsors in the form of billions of so called advertising dollars.
Who makes the bombs, guns, bullets, aircraft, tanks, etc. for the American government? Who sponsors billions of dollars to News programming? What do corporations require to keep going? How many oil companies does it take to screw the world? How many companies or Corporate C.E.O.’s are in collusion with the US government? Or should I ask, how many U.S. Government officials are in collusion with big business interests?
Conclusion:
The Laws that were created in Nuremberg at the end of World War two should be applied to every country, with no exception, because countries who prescribe to war through propaganda and aggression are no better than the fascists of Nazi Germany. There is plenty of room on the planet for everyone. Global solutions should not be dictated by propaganda or by hostile or aggressive acts of War, but negotiated. Justice should no longer be sided with who shouts loudest, but by just laws created for all of mankind. The World did not excuse Serbia or Iraq in the 1990’s for aggressive war, so why should the World excuse the USA for invading Iraq in 2003 or even Israel for invading Lebanon in 2006. The U.S.A. and Israel are not above these laws. Civilization demands A War Crimes Trial for American and Israeli aggression. The laws were created for all nations; therefore, the United States must abide by international law regardless of its position or stature within the U.N.
The World Community needs to progress together in harmony and respect for one another if we are to survive. Civilisation demands it. Otherwise, the United Nations will be doomed to fail and mankind will travel a very dark road in the not too distant future.

Stewart Brennan
